Sicily Grantour
Considering Sicily is set just a few miles off the 'toe' of Italy, it's quite amazing just how different it is. The island to the West has the beautiful Verdura Resort, where we stayed, and the Targa Florio - but the road surfaces are poor despite the incredible history and stunning views. The roads themselves are wonderful - but the surface and litter really does spoil it. Driving the Targa Florio route with a car that competed in it 50 years ago, was very special though. To the east, it becomes much greener and wealthier - roads are magnificent, Mount Etna, captivating. Staying at the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo was perfect and our drives around Etna to the Coast were some of the best roads we've experienced anywhere.
